Mr. Lamont!

The material posted on this site is only an opinion of what I perceive to be happening.

The old saying goes, where there is one rat there are 20. So if I see things this way there are at least 20 others like me.

It might be prudent, to start thinking about what the public perception is ,with respect to what you are doing , as opposed to wasting your time chasing me.

The really great thing about the internet is Bruce on the Bruce, can become Dick in the Wick or Bill on the Hill with a few strokes on the key board.

You cannot change the image in the Mirror. It remains the same and you got to look at it every day.

The people of this community elected you and placed their trust in you, if you drop the ball don’t blame the people that call you on it!

This is an open forum. You are welcome to post what ever you like in comments. If I am misinformed about what is happening, I challenge you to correct me.

But, since I have not had any responses from you, then I guess what I am writing must be realitively close to reality.

When a butterfly flaps its wings in Africa, the whole world changes!

For the record, I am in no way associated with any member of Council! I just call em as I see um!

You decided to go into public life. With it comes challenges, inclusive of what you may consider to be loud mouthed jerks like me.

Suck it up buttercup, you made your bed!

I have the right to express my opinion on any matter I choose, as I choose , as do you .

The 4 to 500 readers of this blog keep coming back to read more, and it is growing every day. The election is not far off!

So either post comments proving the errors in my way or deal with the voters come election day!

I publish what I think unlike you, whispering in the back rooms!

Came across the Ayn Rand posting and was intrigued. Further reading has left me scratching my head so I just have to ask:

Not wishing to offend, but I’m having some difficulty comprehending a blog that reverently mentions Von Mises, Hayek and Bastiat, quotes Ayn Rand, (all authors who’s works hold honored places on my bookshelf) and then praises a tyrant like Gwen Gilbert (nee Hepburn, lately Farrow).

Is someone in need of medication for schizophrenia? Has Bruce actually read Atlas Shrugged? One favor from a politician and Bruce is rendered deaf to the words of John Galt? Bruce seems to have taken a detour from the road of Objectivist Philosophy and needs to back his truck up and look for the signs.

Let’s look at Gwen, who it seems, doesn’t believe in the right to an alternate opinion, let alone the right to property. Instead of “I don’t get mad, I get even” she does both! If you disagree with her, about anything, look out, because the full force of her viciousness will descend on your life. The cops for sure, maybe the taxman and bylaw enforcement. Temper tantrums, lawyers, smear campaigns, the smoke police, (although she used her husband to initiate that one) all appear to be weapons in her arsenal of vindictive response to criticism.

Don’t like a Town employee – harass him till he quits. Don’t like criticism – threaten a lawsuit. Got a problem with a Sauble restaurant owner – stand on his steps and scream curses till he calls the cops. If you need to hide election expenses – pay a friend $750 cash in an envelope to place the ad! Now there’s a good Christian! From everything I hear the only cheek she ever turned was the one she sits on! ………………. Sorry, I just had a visual and had to pause.

As for councilor Art King and his long, embarrassing, disjointed rants in the local newspapers: there are some who believe there is a slot in his back for Gwen to insert her hand and fake movement while she plays ventriloquist at council meetings. I personally subscribe to the Roscoe P. Coultrane-Boss Hogg analogy given Art’s work history plus it costs us so much to get him to meetings that he must be chasing the General Lee as it jumps the closed bridges on our back roads.
It seems he has lied about expense sheets, about paying back funds, about apologizing and there is no reason to believe he isn’t lying about everything else!

As I said, don’t mean to offend – just being Objective!

    • Hey jetman thanks for your input I am not offended I am appreciative.
Yes I have read all of Rand including her essays.
I do not view Gwen as a tyrant, I see her as oppressed.
You can say a lot of things about Gwen but she stands for what she believes win lose or draw. Kinda sorta like a Galt in her own right. She pushes until she gets what she wants I have no problem with this.
Galt, let them do it to themselves but unfortunately with a four year mandate and everyone being politically correct there isn’t enough time to let it fall apart on its own you have to push it.

Reardon, pushed, they made him the enemy. The politicians of his day made him the criminal. The scheming looters of this day have made her the enemy and have done a good job.

As for the town employees, please! The tail that has been wagging the dog for years. We are a small community with limited resources. We cannot afford to have meeting to decide when the next meeting is. We cannot afford no accountability. We cannot afford to maintain someone’s position because they are someone’s relative. It is about time the civil servants were pushed regardless of perceived motives.

You do what you have to do to get where you want to go.

With Gwen, what you see is what you get, I find that refreshing, as I am sick of smiling crooks with that say one thing and do another.

They took her tools until she disclosed the contents of the letter she wrote, when she disclosed it they kept the tools ! Come on now you can’t suck and blow at the same time.

“pay a friend $750 cash in an envelope to place the ad! Now there’s a good Christian”

If it is true it is no worse than selling town assets for twenty cents on the dollar to excouncilors and calling it progress.

I know an individual that offered to mediate but was rejected by members of council as it “was a waste of time”.

Frankly, if anyone is being bullied it is Gwen and Art. I have watched with disgust the goings on at council. The lack of respect the name calling etc.

Why not ask Mr. Lamont about the $200.00 he spent picking up a $27.00 table cloth.
Or maybe about his little side business with the garbage containers.

The reality is the Position of Mayor is that of CEO, you needn’t respect the individual but respect the position regardless. The voters put her there; if she does a bad job they will remove her. If they don’t watch out!

We have all made mistakes, this isn’t bad if we take the lesson. Mayor Gilbert has performed really well over the last little while, showing to me at the very least she learns her lessons well.

My goodness “Bruce”! Did you not appreciate “a Martian named Smith? I could have logged in as the “Stranger in a Strange Land” as I’m starting to feel that way, but I thought with “Bruce” being unable to distinguish between Gwennie and John Galt, I really didn’t need his opinion on the works of Bob (as his late wife Ginny, and I, referred to him over tea) Heinlein.

Nice try on the Hank Reardon comparison, but you seem to forget that it’s Gwen who is the “politician of the day” and she seems to have made an enemy of everyone who disagrees with her. The only analogy I see is that Reardon was too focused on being right to recognize that he was hurting his cause not helping it, and in the end, justifying the existence of his oppressors.

Are you really suggesting that you think her goal is to “push it”, to make it fall apart? Is that what you want; the town, its employees, its people and its council in chaos and total disarray? Is that a “change” you voted for? God may work in mysterious ways but it’s time for a reality check, Johnnie boy, sorry, “Bruce”! You appear far to smart to want to support such a quest. Besides, I’m the one with a reputation for welcoming anarchy as an alternative to what we have and don’t need your help or Gwen’s in driving that bus off a cliff.

“Pushing till she gets what she wants” – you make my point! That’s not her job! What SHE WANTS isn’t important, she was elected, not crowned, and is there to reflect the wishes of the voters not to push her own selfish agenda.

Your “twenty cents on the dollar” comment shows you either don’t have the facts, are conveniently ignoring them, or you can’t do math. In addition you seem to forget that a thing is worth what you can get for it and the only offer the town received was the one they accepted. Besides, that was the last council. Get over it. Stop crying about the past and start looking forward!

“We cannot afford to have meeting to decide when the next meeting is” – you’ve said it better elsewhere but that does not diminish its truth and you should point that truth out to Gwen. She seems positivly anal about setting up little groups to have little meetings about little things to further her agenda. The only meeting she refuses to have is the one to encourage job creation in town. Does she believe that if people are working they’ll be happy and see through her? It probably won’t matter anyway if more organizations like the BIA and Hospital Board tell her she’s not welcome at their meetings because as they say she is abrasive and divisive.

    “We cannot afford no accountability.”
Once again I think you’re trying to be right, even if the grammar is incorrect; but your hero is accountable, not just next election, but now as well. Who saddled the town with an expensive bus (and a paid gig for a couple of her friends to drive it) then, I’m told, went to council and demanded approval of the purchase? (and I’m reffering to this council, not the last one) By the way, I’m getting tired of buzzwords like “Transparency” and “Accountability” – they’re meaningless in the real world and I put them in the same category as, “my late husband, Rick”, as a vote getter.

“We cannot afford to maintain someone’s position because they are someone’s relative.” Don’t know who or what you are reffering to here unless it was “someone’s” attempt to get her boy hired as an in house mechanic for the town at a setup cost of over $250,000? Ask Jonesy!

” They took her tools until she disclosed the contents of the letter she wrote, when she disclosed it they kept the tools ! Come on now you can’t suck and blow at the same time.”
You really should get the facts straight! She never disclosed the letter to council, but the Sun Times apparently saw it, and she refused to return the SIM card from her phone. That blows, that sucks, that may well be theft of town property, take your pick.

When you say, “you do what you have to do to get where you want to go”, are you suggesting that the end justifes the means, whatever they are? Sad! That sentiment is what justifies paying someone else $750 to place an ad during an election so you, and maybe your election expense form, are not associated with it.

I must disagree with you about respecting the office if not who holds it. When the person in the office abuses that office, and the road to winning it, all respect is lost for both. Besides, respect must be earned, it’s not granted automatically!

“If they don’t watch out!” Did you forget the comma after don’t?

I believe you when you say: with Gwen, what you see is what you get. What I see is someone who is incapable of learning a lesson because she won’t or can’t admit to being wrong and may only be “performing well right now” because she’s not smart enough to be her usual self while, at the same time, trying to fool the municipal affairs folks, and others, who are watching. Just my opinion – I could be wrong.

I will take your advice and ask Mr. Lamont about $200 to pick up a $27 tablecloth but I’m sure he’ll just refer to your questionable math skills. Besides, if he is the bootlegger Art says he is, why would he need the money? Speaking of Art, and I don’t like to, maybe he blamed his wife for the screwup with his mileage claims because she shares your ability in math?

Perhaps you didn’t mean it, “Bruce”, but comparing Gwennie to John Galt is offensive.
You should point out to her that John Galt was succesful because he withdrew his services to accomplish his goals. If she will withdraw her service as mayor, I won’t join the Church of Gwen, but I’ll have to rethink respecting her and I would once again have respect for the office.

Nice dicussing the state of the town with you “Bruce”, but 2 years have passed since I last read Atlas Shrugged. I’m calmed down enough, (and renewed my Valium perscription) to read it again, so I will probably be busy for the next 24 hours as I don’t just skim it like some seem to. Make that 36 hours as I may add “Stranger”, for entertainment and Starship Trooper, for a treatise on how to form an effective government, to the reading list! I’d add “Night of Jan.16th” but I’m sure you appreciate the problems with alternate endings! I sure hope Gwen does!

    • Very good Amartiannamedsmith!
“My goodness “Bruce”! Did you not appreciate “a Martian named Smith? It is good you have your perspective and are willing to share it!

“Nice try on the Hank Reardon comparison, but you seem to forget that it’s Gwen who is the “politician of the day” and she seems to have made an enemy of everyone who disagrees with her. The only analogy I see is that Reardon was too focused on being right to recognize that he was hurting his cause not helping it, and in the end, justifying the existence of his oppressors.”

Even a better point!!! You just have to think it through!

“Are you really suggesting that you think her goal is to “push it”, to make it fall apart? Is that what you want; the town, its employees, its people and its council in chaos and total disarray? Is that a “change” you voted for? Besides, I’m the one with a reputation for welcoming anarchy as an alternative to what we have and don’t need your help or Gwen’s in driving that bus off a cliff.”

      You mean it hasn’t already??

“Are you really suggesting that you think her goal is to “push it”, to make it fall apart? I am not suggesting anything, only expressing thoughts! Besides that bus has already left the station!!

“Pushing till she gets what she wants” – you make my point! That’s not her job! What SHE WANTS isn’t important, she was elected, not crowned, and is there to reflect the wishes of the voters not to push her own selfish agenda.”

Isn’t it?? She was elected to achieve the goals she laid out in her quest to get elected. The electorate spoke! She was crowned!

“Your “twenty cents on the dollar” comment shows you either don’t have the facts, are conveniently ignoring them, or you can’t do math. In addition you seem to forget that a thing is worth what you can get for it and the only offer the town received was the one they accepted. Besides, that was the last council. Get over it. Stop crying about the past and start looking forward!”

So instead of taking pot shots at me, share with us the facts I am missing! Who did the marketing? What was the appraised value? How was it marketed? Why did they buy it, in the first place? Is this what we are going to do with the Medical Center? The past is the foundation to the future. A flawed past, creates a dismal future! If we don’t deal with the thieves of yesterday they will be back tomorrow.

““We cannot afford to have meeting to decide when the next meeting is” – you’ve said it better elsewhere but that does not diminish its truth and you should point that truth out to Gwen. She seems positively anal about setting up little groups to have little meetings about little things to further her agenda. It probably won’t matter anyway if more organizations like the BIA and Hospital Board tell her she’s not welcome at their meetings because as they say she is abrasive and divisive.”

The cancer of the past drives these, and I use the term loosely “Institutions”. So far as I can see, these organizations are lame duck dancing to the tune of the player of yesterday. That is clearly evident by a walk downtown and by the fact that no one stops on the way through. With respect to the Hospital Board, there’s a joke! Good old boys driving that bus. According to you and them, no discussion is a better way to go. Bull shit!

” They took her tools until she disclosed the contents of the letter she wrote, when she disclosed it they kept the tools! Come on now you can’t suck and blow at the same time.”
You really should get the facts straight! She never disclosed the letter to council, but the Sun Times apparently saw it, and she refused to return the SIM card from her phone. That blows, that sucks, that may well be theft of town property, take your pick.”

The letter was disclosed the paper published it!
Why would or should she deliver, it to the extortionist that illegally interfered with her ability to do her job. “You do this or we will do that!” Kiss lily white ass! The only way to deal with terrorist is not to submit to demands! Could it be that she paid for the sim card???

“When you say, “you do what you have to do to get where you want to go”, are you suggesting that the end justifies the means, whatever they are? Sad! That sentiment is what justifies paying someone else $750 to place an ad during an election so you, and maybe your election expense form, are not associated with it.”

Prove this with hard facts, documentation cowboy, and I will be the first to attack! A signed affidavit by the parties involved would satisfy my demand. If indeed this happened the investigation would have taken place and she would have been charged. That didn’t happen.

“I must disagree with you about respecting the office if not who holds it. When the person in the office abuses that office, and the road to winning it, all respect is lost for both. Besides, respect must be earned, it’s not granted automatically!”

The respect was given with the vote Talley. You as a Councilor are to respect the office! The voters decide who gets the respect. Your job is to work with what you have got to get where you want to go. Run for Mayor next time and win, then you drive the bus. But I guess we can agree to disagree on that one.

“I believe you when you say: with Gwen, what you see is what you get. What I see is someone who is incapable of learning a lesson because she won’t or can’t admit to being wrong and may only be “performing well right now” because she’s not smart enough to be her usual self while, at the same time, trying to fool the municipal affairs folks, and others, who are watching. Just my opinion – I could be wrong.”

We are all entitled to our opinions; again, we can agree to disagree.

“I will take your advice and ask Mr. Lamont about $200 to pick up a $27 tablecloth but I’m sure he’ll just refer to your questionable math skills. Besides, if he is the bootlegger Art says he is, why would he need the money? Speaking of Art, and I don’t like to, maybe he blamed his wife for the screw-up with his mileage claims because she shares your ability in math?”

You are right, his sidelines should keep him happy, but, greed has no limits!

“Perhaps you didn’t mean it, “Bruce”, but comparing Gwennie to John Galt is offensive.
You should point out to her that John Galt was successful because he withdrew his services to accomplish his goals. If she will withdraw her service as mayor, I won’t join the Church of Gwen, but I’ll have to rethink respecting her and I would once again have respect for the office.”

I think your point here is good! Everyone on Council should resign. Let’s have an election now! Separate the men from the boys! Maybe then you would get your wish, but maybe not! My bet is that there would be a few more unemployed but I don’t think Gwen and Art would be in that group. But I could be wrong, and if I am you would be driving the bus and I would look pretty silly! Go ahead make my day! I would love to look silly.

I suggest you reread Anthem, You are a bright guy, and you should be able to do that in the prescribed time!
In the mean time Thanks for your input. I will make sure “Johnnie Boy” gets your message, he always did like you!
      BAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

I did as you suggested “Bruce” and did some digging on the $200 for a $27 tablecloth and I admit I was wrong. Your math skills weren’t questioned!
But it appears you should go back to Arthur and ask for the whole truth not the “Pravda” he’s pushing. That kind of error could get you sued and you know I worry about you!

    BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA for now

    • Hey amatiannamedsmith

Good man! 1+1 does make three!
As for the Pravda it is what it is.
As for litigation they can bring it on!

That’s funny, I saw Art likened to Buford Pusser battling McNair County. Let’s watch and see who’s walking upright lately.

I’m the “Martian” cos I’m “out of this world”, while Rundgren fights for “Truth, Justice and the American Way”, with a loaded 303 in each hand. He’s my hero, you, not so much!

Art may walk upright, most primates do, but on this issue, he’s not “Walking Tall.

I don’t want anyone to think I detest Art or wish him ill, he has never done me any personal harm in all the time I’ve known him, and except for the expense sheet scandal and his unwavering support for someone who, in my opinion, demonstrates the worst in politics, has made some quite valid arguments in favor of the people of this town. More times than not, I agree with his stance on issues, but in political life perception of wrongdoing is as important as the questioning of a person’s judgement, and there has been much lately, on both issues, to cause the voters to think twice before returning him to office.

LOL, “Bruce”? This ain’t McNair county but YOU should remember who heads our Police Committee, and she’s no laughing matter!

    The Martian

    • There are stange things done
      In the Bruce County Sun
By those that toll for control

      The Bruce county lights
      Have seen queer sights
By the strangest is yet to unfold.

      For Art and Gwen
      Against those other men
Shall fight to win, in the brisk October cold.

  6. amartiannamedsmith says:

    “Bruce”, I think you skipped a line…….

The Town’s trails have their secret tales
    That would make your blood run cold;

But as the truth comes out Art and Gwen could sing to each other:

“Just take a look at me now, well there’s just an empty space
And you coming back to me is against the odds and that’s what I’ve got to face.” (With apologies to Phil Collins)

If you want poetry “Bruce”, I offer Mike Pinder instead of Mr. Service:

When the white eagle of the North is flying overhead
And the browns, reds and golds of autumn lie in the gutter, dead.
Remember then, the summer birds on wings of fire flaying
Come to witness springs new hope, born of leaves decaying.
As new life will come from death, love will come of leisure.
Love of love, love of life and giving without measure
Gives in return a wondrous yearn of peace, almost seen.
Live hand-in-hand and together we’ll stand on the threshold of a dream.

Words for “an old semi-retired guy living near Cider Mill Hill” (nudge, nudge, wink, wink), with lots of leisure time, to live by “Bruce” – Eh!
