AND THEY IGNORED THE OFFER?????

Mr. Barfoot felt that the Buyers would be around after the election!

When the investors came to town to meet with Mayor Barfoot and Mayor Gilbert to discuss the agreement why was Mayor Barfoot to busy to attend the meeting???

Why did Georgian Bluffs lawyer not get back to the towns lawyer until the 8th, the day theday before the offer expired??

Why was there not an emergency meeting called by the CAO (Mayor Rhonda Cook) when requested by the Mayor??

Since there was a termination clause in the agreement, why not accept the offer and keep them on  string. If the deal didn’t work out then terminate the deal. But to ignore the offer and scare them away is just irresponsible and shows that these players are not business people and could care less about the future of this area!

Is Georgian Bluffs trying to deal out Wiarton?????  Why did  members of Council insist that Georgian Bluffs be given the right to decline the offer? They had sixty days to cut a deal or walk!

Why didn’t the CAO or Georgian Bluffs contact the Realtor to investigate the deal?

Why did the CAO not allow an emergency meeting to be called to deal with the offer? Did Mayor Rhonda Cook feel it might affect the outcome of the election??

The silence is deafening!

Sounds to me like they are trying to discredit Mayor Gwen Gilbert before the election! Bone heads!!!

There are people who have been throwing rocks at Mayor Gwen Gilbert for the last four years  calling her everything but white, what is the matter with you people???

It was Mayor Gwen Gilbert that brought an opportunity to this community of a life time and certain people are chastising her and in the next breath wine and bitch and moan because there are no jobs, no growth and no future!

Of the candidates running for Mayor, I don’t believe any of them are capable of putting together anything remotely comparing to this offer!

This community has greatly underestimated the abilities of Mayor Gwen Gilbert! The Bandits have abused her and the community as a whole by doing everything in their power to frustrate and discredit her! Wake up Sheeple!

The fact remains she still has no office, no cell phone and no computer, even though the Municipal Affairs investigation proven her right!

The fact remains that Art Kings motion to conduct a Judicial Review of the illegal actions of certain members of Council was voted down by the same certain members that were the subject of the review!

The old boys, the same ones supporting  Deackons, didn’t want a woman in office and now are trying to drive the final spike through her office. The community as a whole is paying the price.

I am ashamed of the overall stupidity being displayed! The saying goes “you can’t be a prophet in your own backyard” this is certainly being proven in the TSBP!

I hope everyone gets their head out of their ass and realize that Mayor Gwen Gilbert is more than the negative bullshit that has been tossed around and perpetuated by the few!

Comments like “one thing is for sure, “the new Mayor won’t be wearing a skirt!” being tossed around down town certainly indicates the mentality of the few in this town! Small minded and stupid!

I believe that the only person capable of reviving this deal is Mayor Gwen Gilbert and if she is not there kiss it goodbye and understand that the future of this community is in servicing tourists fourteen weeks a year and maintaining an aging population with an increasing tax bill and a grim outcome over the long haul!

MORE DETAILS TO COME

This is internet bullshit, and you know it Bruce.

  3. 2censworth says:

Yes I must agree, it’s not looking good for Gwen. So just to hedge our bets, let’s hear from Mr Close. How would he have handled the opportunity, and what will he do if elected mayor?

  4. 2censworth says:

I think the entire old crew will be gone…Many new refreshing candidates in the race. Can’t wait, but I’m hearing the new council will be in for a major challenge. Seems when we get the year-end numbers we may be broke. The province may have to amalgamate us with Georgian Bluffs. We may have 747s landing in Wiarton International.

    2censworth,
Where are you getting that information ? Perhaps from want to besssssssssss

Some points that are wrong here and make this offer a figment of someone’s (Bruce) imagination:
    1. Unless you are a Government entity, you cannot own an international airport. No private individual or corporation can own this airport and maintain it’s international designation.
    2. Even in this week’s financial report, the Airport is running in the black and is reported as running in a surplus situation.
    3. No serious offer to purchase would be listing only one property owner. An offer of this magnitude would have been vetted through a lawyer or at least a real estate agent. I don’t beleive that the mayor would be that niave to tell the puchaser that only the TSBP was owner.
    4. The Conservation Authority (Niagara Eascarpment) has disallowed the residential subdivision to proceed, so what makes the mayor think she can persuade them to allow a larger scale facility?
    5. Why would she try to sell the airport at less than the MPAC market value?
    6. This is clearly another example of how the TSBP mayor is an independent who feels she needs no council support or direction. (if this is in fact true, and not conjured up by “Bruce”)

Notice how the “real” press has not picked up on this bullshit.

    • 1. Unless you are a Government entity, you cannot own an international airport. No private individual or corporation can own this airport and maintain it’s international designation.
WRONG! Peardon International Airport is a Private Corporation

      2. Even in this week’s financial report, the Airport is running in the black and is reported as running in a surplus situation.
Bullshit! It cost the TSBP $75,000 per year and GB $75,000 per year.

      3. No serious offer to purchase would be listing only one property owner. An offer of this magnitude would have been vetted through a lawyer or at least a real estate agent. I don’t beleive that the mayor would be that niave to tell the puchaser that only the TSBP was owner.

Offer was produced by a Real Estate Agent, who wrote the offerpursuant to the Purchasers specifications.

      4. The Conservation Authority (Niagara Eascarpment) has disallowed the residential subdivision to proceed, so what makes the mayor think she can persuade them to allow a larger scale facility?

The Crown Patent issued on the Airport exempts the Airport property from any NEC, MNR imposed regulations pursuant to Section 62 of the Magna Carta of 1215.

      5. Why would she try to sell the airport at less than the MPAC market value?

AACI Aprraisal placed value at 1.8 Million Public Record!

      6. This is clearly another example of how the TSBP mayor is an independent who feels she needs no council support or direction. (if this is in fact true, and not conjured up by “Bruce”)

The Mayor received the Offer from the Real Estate Agent and presented it to Council, in camera (and on camera as some believe) which was supported with the recomendation to present it to Georgian Bluffs. The Mayor presented the Offer to Mayor Barfoot. Interesting to note that Georgian Bluffs was/has be negociating with two other buyers at the same time, without telling TSBP about their negociations. So anyone by your defination, that promotes the area for investment without Council permission is in the wrong!

Notice how the “real” press has not picked up on this bullshit.

They maybe don’t have any information as they don’t know how to crack a wireless router! 🙂
No one wants to talk about it as it is a hot potatoe!
Interestingly enough your router isn’t protected either!!! Still using WEP???

      Nice try though Fred!

The airport is a money pit for taxpayers and benefits a handfull of flight schools who use it for a washroom break and nav training. The runway isn’t much of a challange for them. A few pilot owners make use of this airport but plane ownership even when shared is not universal like owning a car.

Runway paint costs and the cost of runway surface repair along with aging buildings will take even more money in future years unless the airport is downrated. Even then there are standards that must be met.

About 43% of residential taxes collected stay with the town. The rest go to County and Education. Figuring 220 homes in Hepworth with an average tax bill of $1500 that gives the Town $149,400 to spend. I think the $1500 is probably high.

Now I know the airport deficit is shared equally between TSBP and GB and the amount is not constant each year.

My point is just to put it into perspective it takes all the residential taxes from a Hepworth size area just to keep a 5000 foot runway open so that our economic Development Officer can run radio ads saying that it is there.

The relevant fact is that even if we gave the airport away without conditions we could collect taxes from it instead of facing an increasing net loss looking forward.

GB can negotiate all they want. Water is available. Wiarton waste treatment is not set up to take residential development on the scale mentioned here. Based on the nonsense that is happening at Sauble looking for the elusive solution, it is a valid assumption that increased discharge to Colpoys will always be blocked.

Whether it stays the same or recreates itself under other ownership the airport has an existential problem.

From the Owen Sound Sun Times:

The councils in South Bruce Peninsula and Georgian Bluffs may face a big decision after the dust settles from the municipal election — whether to sell the Wiarton-Keppel airport.

Group wants to buy Wiarton-Keppel airport

    • Imagine that! A deal on the airport, who’d a thunk!!
It is pretty clear that Barfoot has his own agenda. The Old Boys must have a plan for themselves to divy up the swag!

“We have the airport as part of our strategic plan that we want to keep it, so that’s our directive. If there’s something that’s going to change our mind, then obviously we’ll have to take a look at it and up ’til now we haven’t seen anything that looks that appealing yet,” he said.

Let’s see 2 mil for an airport that is losing 150,00 grand per year of tax dollars and needs 10 mil in repairs, and he wants to keep it! They have owned it for 14 years and done nothing but lose money. $150,000 X fourteen years= 2.1 mil in losses plus 10 mil in repairs. No jobs no hotel no nothing!!

Must be new math! Mr. Barfoot and the GB boys are screwing TSBP and we are watching it happen. He out right lied when he said they had a week to review the the deal they had 60 days to look at it and either terminate it or do the deal. He ignored it and we as tax payers are going to pay for it like it or not!
At least Mayor Gwen Gilbert has the good sense to look at it and present it, the other baffoon wished it away!
Wonder if GB had a women Mayor if things would have been different!
